Rick Garcia has been awarded with numerous Emmys, Golden Mikes, AP’s as well as the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award. Throughout Garcia’s professional broadcasting career he’s been recognized for his professional contributions to the Los Angeles TV news industry. For example, in 2008 he was awarded with the the National Hispanic Media Coalition’s Excellence in Broadcast Journalism and is a recipient of the Striving for Excellence Award from the Minorities in Broadcasting Training Program. Philanthropically, in Los Angeles, Rick Garcia provided the Unity Award scholarship at his alma mater, Quartz Hill High School.In addition, Garcia worked with various Los Angeles community causes. Including but not limited to the Facing Forward Foundation, the Michael Hoefflin Foundation, the Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley, and the Boys and Girls Clubs based in Los Angeles.

Rick Garcia began his broadcasting career in 1979 at KAVL-AM Radio California as a play-by-play announcer and disc jockey. In 1982, Garcia became sports director for KTN-TV in Palm Springs, California, and the following year moved to KVBC-TV (NBC) in Las Vegas, Nevada, as a weekend sports anchor. Over the next few years, Rick Garcia anchored sports at KOAT-TV (ABC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and KTSP-TV (CBS) in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1987, Garcia moved to Los Angeles to handle sports at KTTV (Fox), and later anchored the news at KCOP-TV (UPN). In 2009,  Rick Garcia CBS became a household name as Garcia became the co-anchor of the weeknight editions of CBS’s KCAL9 News at 8pm and 10 pm. Two years later – in addition to those duties – he started hosting the CBS2 6pm newscast. Rick Garcia also helped facilitate KCAL9’s ranking as 2010-11 most-watched prime-time news show for Southern California. Rick Garcia eventually went on to anchor KCBS’ Morning show at 4:30am-7:00am and later, CBS2 News at 5:00, 6:00 and 11pm.  Garcia became a true CBS legend. He also was host of Fox KTTV’s MLB, Extra Innings and NFL Fox Overtime.
