Los Angeles Native Rick Garcia in Antelope Valley

“My mom helped found The Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley to fight child abuse. I can’t imagine a more important job than protecting children.”

NHMC Honorees

The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) honored local media professionals for their contribution to the media. Rick Garcia was the recipient of an award from the NHMC in the Broadcast Journalism category. The award is given to those who are recognized by the Coalition for “outstanding achievements and contributions to the region’s Latino community.” NHMC is presenting a new award – for Outstanding Online Series. And its very first award recipient – this year in 2018 – was Sin Vergüenza (Without Shame). At the awards last year, Rick Garcia was the event’s emcee.

Striving for Excellence…Always

The Striving for Excellence Award from the Minorities in Broadcasting Training Program is give to those individuals “at the top of their profession who continue to set the standards for excellence in broadcast journalism and in the field of entertainment.” The organization works in conjunction with both the National Association of Broadcasting (NAB) and Radio & Television News Directors’ Association (RTNDA).

As well as having received this award in the past, Los Angeles anchorman, reporter and actor Rick Garcia has presented awards to other honorees. For example, in 2015, together with Cokie Roberts and Sam Donaldson, Rick Garcia presented the awards to Ralph Farquhar. Farquhar worked as executive producer for the Disney Channel’s ‘The Proud Family.’
