The Children’s Center is gearing up for the holidays with its Stuff-A-Bus Holiday Toy Drive. Gifts will be collected for all-aged children from a variety of Antelope Valley neighborhoods. Close to 30 local businesses have helped the organization’s purchase of gifts and toys. Rick Garcia has been a volunteer with The Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley and the Boys and Girls Clubs since 1987.

 National Hispanic Media Coalition Award
The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) honors local media professionals for their contribution to the media. In 2008, Rick Garcia was recognized for his achievements in Broadcast Journalism. The NHMC award is given to those who are recognized by the Coalition for “outstanding achievements and contributions to the region’s Latino community.” In 2017, Rick Garcia, the Emmy award winning anchor for CBS 2 emceed the NHMC’s awards presentation and luncheon. See more here.

Striving for Excellence Award
Rick Garcia received the Striving for Excellence Award from the Minorities in Broadcasting Training Program in 2002. The aim of the award is to honor those individuals “at the top of their profession who continue to set the standards for excellence in broadcast journalism and in the field of entertainment.”  The organization works in conjunction with both the National Association of Broadcasting (NAB) and Radio & Television News Directors’ Association (RTNDA).In 2015, together with Cokie Roberts and Sam Donaldson, Rick Garcia presented the awards to Ralph Farquhar producer of Disney Channel’s ‘The Proud Family.’

Edward R. Murrow Award
Seeking out individuals who have portrayed “outstanding journalism” , RTDNA Executive Director Dan Shelley explained: These honorees truly represent the very best in broadcast and digital journalism around the world”. Rick Garcia received the award in 1999. News reporters, anchors and journalists have a substantial opportunity to give back to the community through their jobs. By giving over newsworthy information to the public without bias, anchormen and women contribute to the establishment of educated and aware individuals and communities. Read more about Garcia

a recognition of LA’s “fine journalists while promoting excellence in new and emerging media.”

Associated Press Award
Rick Garcia received the Associated Press Award three times: twice in 1996 and once in 2005. Reporters are recognized for their contribution to the accurate transfer of news information.

Golden Mikes Award
Rick Garcia has taken home 6 of these precious awards – which were established in recognition of “the power of voice” in radio broadcasting.

Emmy Award
Rick Garcia received his Emmy Award for his work as a TV news anchor from the Emmies’ National Academy of TV Arts & Sciences.
